Gotta Love It!

One of the things I’ve discovered I like the most about publishing a book is winning over skeptics. This review by Gayle Weisswasser, who writes a great blog dealing with mainly literary fiction, made my day. How nice to have someone make assumptions that are proven wrong. Gotta love it. My European friends were very similar. With their characteristic lack of ass-kissing or pandering, they said things like, “Well, it’s quite American isn’t it, but awfully good,” or “For a self help book, it was quite intelligent.” Thanks, mates!

When I saw the book cover, I thought it would be all laughs — a decadent gift book. I had no idea there would be so much research, and so many insights. Never judge a book by its cover, as they say!

I got it right away. I loved the play on words.

But I was surprised by the chapter about relationships– a lot of stuff in there that was pretty hard hitting. I had to hear it, though. I was so wrapped up in myself and didn’t ever think about it in the way they put it: I’d be helping myself in the long run by being more considerate of my husband. Being more open, more willing to be intimate etc. Not what I thought of as a time out but I get how it helps you in the long run!

I think I’d divorce those friends of yours! Or is that just English stuffiness?!
