Whirl

My mind is racing. I made three appointments today (vet, doctor and teacher) from my cell phone while driving…. now I can’t remember the exact dates anymore. I have work for tomorrow morning, yet can’t find the right original documents. My kids are hungry, and I can’t think of what to make for dinner. My husband’s in Korea all week. Yesterday I forgot what day it was. Today I forgot to tell the babysitter not to pick up my son and she called me from his bus stop, worried.

The fact that I am forgetting things left right and center is my warning signal: it’s time to slow down, not speed up.

Everyone these days has too much to do. There’s no getting around that. But sometimes, things have to wait. Sometimes they have to be late. Sometimes they just don’t get done.

Because what happens when we power through is we never actually cross those things off our to-do list, we just replace them with other to-do’s.

So… I am going to make a pizza tonight. Then I will watch American Idol with the kids. Then I will get up tomorrow at 6am and do the work I was supposed to do tonight.

I’m no good to anyone unless my mind gets a rest!
