Letting Yourself Off the Hook
“The art of being wise is knowing what to overlook.”
William James, philosopher
What do you make of that, you old monkey mind*? Doesn’t just thinking that make you feel more calm?
I think if all of us multi-tasking mothers out there said that little mantra to ourselves every morning as we prepared to launch into our action-packed days, we’d be so much easier on ourselves. It can be a real challenge to get our hyperactive inner critic to shut up sometimes. Does a day go by where you don’t feel as though you’ve failed at something, and you tell yourself what a mess you are?
Let’s hear what your mantras are… what do you tell yourself when you need a boost?

My mantra is to stop and smell the flowes especially roses. I think of how lucky I am to have the option for a jam packed day! and if I want to excel at what I do to I make sure I walk into my flower garden in my living room and smell what is in season and blooming. right now I have christmas catcus, khaloncoe, & orchids

I say to myself “I’m doing the best I can.”

My mantra is said over and over while taking deep breaths - it helps me to fall asleep or to focus during the day. Here it is:
‘life in’ (while breathing in), ‘love out’ (while breathing out) - pause and reverse it - ‘love in’ (while breathing in), ‘life out’ (while breathing out).
It sounds pretty simple but it helps to breath in the good and breath out the bad. It’s been a form of meditation for me and enables me to realize what is important and what is not.
